From The DDY Digs Desk:

On Sundays, we like to dig around for fun stuff. We have a ball! (Sometimes literally.)

We are thrilled to share how much we’re digging the release of Mason’s grandpa’s first mystery novel! My hometown newspaper recently profiled him and it was such a treat to see him and his book, “The Surf Detective,” featured, especially since I have twice been editor of the newspaper and am so fond of the publication and its publisher, who is celebrating his 25th year covering local news—bravo!

“The Surf Detective” follows Mike Malone, “an amateur sleuth on a case to find out why one of the world’s best surfers was viciously attacked and left for dead. Malone starts his investigation in the small Southern California town of Encinitas and while searching for those responsible for the attack, he becomes involved with powerful multinational companies and a sinister religious cult.

The mystery unfolds against a backdrop of professional surfing contests at exotic locations around the world and along the way, Malone earns his title of ‘The Surf Detective.’”

Before he was Mason’s grandpa, my dad was Daley’s grandpa. He wrote “The Surf Detective” during the last year of Daley’s life and the book is dedicated to my sweet boy. How cool is that?! Writing and publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and we are so happy and proud to see his work in print.

Read about the inspiration behind the book in the article, “Local author pens surfing detective novel set in Encinitas,” here. “The Surf Detective” is available for purchase in print or eBook from barnesandnoble.com here and amazon.com here.

  1. You have a famous father! How cool is that! Congratulations! It sounds very interesting too. And it starts in your hometown? I wonder what the surfer had to do with a sinister religious cult ;) I think it’s especially lovely that the book is dedicated to Daley. Now he really will live forever :) X
