From The DDY Social Calendar:

The 16th Annual Pet Parade and Chili Cook-Off in Laguna Beach, Calif. is set for Sunday, September 30! The fun event benefits three Laguna Beach animal charities, including the Laguna Beach Animal Shelter. Read more about the shelter, which last year received a beautiful renovation of its small no-kill facility after flooding from storms caused severe damage, here and read an article about its reopening here.

This event is extra cool because the Pet Parade includes a “Most Gorgeous Senior” category for pets 10 years and older! I love when seniors are singled out for their awesomeness and I think there should be a senior category in every parade, mutt strut, doggie dash and fashion show!

“Calling Pet Owners, Chili Chefs! Plan on a hot time Sunday, Sept. 30, with pets and chili cooks competing at the Laguna Board of Realtors 15th Annual Chili Cook-Off and Pet Parade from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Tivoli Too, 777 Laguna Canyon Rd.

Pet owners of all ages can enter their pets in the pet parade for awards in six different categories: most handsome, prettiest female, most talented, most beautiful rescue pet, best costume and most gorgeous senior (10 years & older).

Aspiring and professional chili chefs are invited to submit recipes and samples of their fiery concoctions for review by a panel of local judges that will name one entry the Best Chili of the Year.

The event raises funds for the three Laguna Beach animal charities, Laguna Beach Animal Shelter, Pacific Marine Mammal Center and The Bluebell Foundation for Cats.”

Admission is $5, free for children under the age of five. Find more event info and details on pet registration and chili contest registration here.

Laguna Beach is a coastal community located halfway between San Diego and Los Angeles. Dog-friendly Main Beach is just a few blocks from where the Pet Parade and Chili Cook-Off is held. You can walk your dog along the wide beach or on the wooden boardwalk, which winds up from the sand to a path along the bluffs that overlook the ocean.

For older dogs who may not have the energy or mobility for beach walking, Heisler Park, which is located along the bluff top, has wide stretches of grass (and picnic tables) where you and your dog can relax and enjoy the breeze, the view and the people and dog-watching along the popular path!

Metered parking is available (up to 4 hours) right next to the grass for easy unloading from the car. Find details on dog-friendly areas and businesses in Laguna Beach here. See more of DDY’s photos of Laguna Beach here.
