I volunteer with dogs at Oregon Humane Society and when I looked at Shane’s adoption profile online and noted his weight—142!—I knew I had to pay the 8-year-old Lab blend a visit.
Shane has thyroid issues similar to Uncle Walter’s, who a few years ago also weighed around 140 pounds. I had a feeling that wouldn’t be the only similarity between the two and I was right. As soon as I entered Shane’s kennel he treated me like his best friend, who he hadn’t seen in 142 years! At his current weight, Shane’s not too limber but he did these adorable little hops to show how happy he was to have company.
I’m beyond thrilled to report that Shane has been adopted. Soon his health will be back on track and with time, he’ll return to a normal weight. (Walter’s now at about 79
pounds). But I’m sure that Shane’s huge capacity for giving and receiving love will continue to grow. Congratulations to this sweet boy and his super lucky new family!

one look at that face, and he probably would’ve been home with us.

Beautiful face. So glad he found a home. Hopefully he’ll get on a diet soon. 142 pounds would be heavier than Georgia, I think! Yikes.

What a great story. I’m sure Shane will be so happy in his new forever home and that weight will come off.
