Looking at the link between your dog’s limp and his excess weight

Dr. Marty Becker is a super social veterinarian (he is known as “America’s Veterinarian” after all!) He posts regularly to his Facebook page and often provides quick tips on dog health. Here’s some insight from Dr. Becker on the potential culprit behind overweight dogs’ injuries:

“If your dog is limping, part of the problem may well be excess weight. A study of dogs at least 20 percent more that their ideal body weight evaluated their degrees of lameness. Then the dogs’ caloric intake was reduced to prompt them to lose weight while maintaining exercise at the pre-study level. By the end of the study, the dogs had not only lost weight but 82 percent of the dogs were less lame.”

  1. People at the park have been telling us Georgia is FAT! Poor thing, I might have been a bit generous lately thinking it was winter and she needed some blubber. And no thanks to The Other Half either for stuffing her with liver and lamb crumble. She’s back on her diet. She really is the Oprah of the dog world.

Now, she HAS been limping [slipped disk in neck if you remember] but as the weight is slowly dropping off, she’s definitely moving better. So much so that she jumped AGAIN yesterday when we took our eye off the ball and is limping AGAIN today. Seriously, are littledogs as much problem? :D

P>S> I’m sorry to inform you that I published a new post just as you heroically commented on the 3rd. Take your time, I’ll understand LOL LOL LOL X
